Vendor Eligibility –

To be eligible to apply, a vendor must live within 75 miles of Sunapee, New Hampshire. Our market features vendors who sell agricultural products, baked goods, prepared foods and established artisans wares. All products for sale at the market must be made/grown and sold by the vendors themselves, family or their employees.

It is the vendor’s responsibility to have the proper license for the type of product they sell. All vendors must follow food safety standards for food preparation and vending at the market.

Market Management –

The Market is operated by a nonprofit organization, Project Sunapee. Project Sunapee is dedicated to the wellbeing of the Town of Sunapee by strengthening the sense of community, encouraging economic vitality, fostering education, and supporting the preservation of the cultural, historic, and scenic assets of our community. We are an organization dedicated to nurturing our town. Our goal is to strengthen our sense of community, encourage economic vitality, support education, and preserve our cultural, historic and scenic assets.

The Sunapee Farmers Market is run by the Sunapee Farmer’s Market Committee. They are responsible for all phases of the Market’s operation, as set forth in the Sunapee Farmers Market Rules. These include setting general market policy, establishing criteria for vendor eligibility, judging applications for new memberships, and allocating market space to the vendors.

Vendor Selection Process –

All vendor applications are reviewed by the Sunapee Farmers Market committee and market intern. Applications are reviewed annually after the application deadline on March 1st. If space remains, we will take applications after the deadline. In addition to the eligibility requirements outlined in the market rules, the committee considers the following criteria when reviewing vendor applications.

  • The degree to which the product fulfills a distinctive niche at the market
  • The degree to which ingredients are locally grown or sourced
  • The degree to which non-local ingredients are locally processed and acquired from Fair Trade and sustainable sources
  • The degree to which packaging is compostable and environmentally friendly
  • The quality of vendors presentation and display
  • The volume of product the vendor is able to provide
  • Vendor’s experience selling at other farmers markets
  • The degree to which the primary farmer/chef/crafter is present at market

When we have space to accept new vendors, we first add vendors who will help us maintain our desired vendor ratio of 65% agricultural, 25% prepared foods, and 10% arts. Hopefully, we will receive more applications than we can accept. Those who are turned down due to insufficient space or competing products will be kept on our vendor list. New vendor applicants are also encouraged to apply for space on an as needed basis.

Reserved Vendors and Day Vendors –

Vendors can reserve space for all or part of the summer season. Some vendors occupy Day Vendor spaces which are assigned on a rotational basis. Some Day Vendor spaces are allocated at the beginning of the season to allow the opportunity for vendors to try vending at the market, and some Day Vendors fill spaces when a Reserved Vendor is absent.
